– A SPACE FOR RESEARCH, CREATION

AND EXPERIMENTATION –

THE PROJECT

Located in Gandiol, in the northern coast of Senegal, the Dëkandoo residency is part of the communal project launched by Hahatay. It aims to be a space for communication between the local community and the other territories, where new ideas circulate from an innovative and creative perspective. Since 2019, Dëkandoo has hosted more than 40 artists and researchers in residence, from different artistic and geographical backgrounds. Founded by artivist Mamadou Dia following his double migration experience, first to Europe and then back to his village of origin, the residency is part of a whole ecosystem in which people from Gandiol and elsewhere in the world participate. Learn more about Hahatay here.

OUR VALUES

Rooted in the local community, yet with a global vision, Dëkandoo is an artistic and social laboratory, from which we materialize innovative ideas about the world of tomorrow we dream of.

We work with local resources and highlight traditional skills, always with an ecological, circular economy and community realisation perspective.

Artists and researchers in residence are invited to create in collaboration with the rest of structures part of  Hahatay and to immerse themselves in the local reality.

OUR missions

  • Creating conditions that foster innovation and the exchange of artistic and craft skills
  • Supporting the professionalisation of artists in the region
  • Promoting access to culture for women, children and the wider rural population
  • Positionning Gandiol on the map of international creation and sustainable tourism
  • Encouraging an indigenous, plural and inclusive cultural vision
